The health of your skin is predominantly an internal issue, not an external one. A healthy body inside means healthy skin on the outside. However, it is essential to look after your skin on the outside as well if you want the healthiest skin possible.
The Role of Your Skin in Maintaining Optimal Health
Your skin is your body’s largest vital organ, and it’s also the largest eliminatory organ. Its functions range from temperature control and protection to elimination. In fact, the skin is sometimes referred to as your “third kidney.”
Your skin should eliminate as much toxic waste per day as your lungs, kidneys, and bowels do. When working with optimum efficiency, the skin can eliminate up to 2kgs of material per day, with most of this elimination being in the form of mucus, toxins, and gases.
Many of the foods you consume have by-products that will congest and inflame your system. Yeast, parasites, bacteria, fungi, and petrochemicals get clogged up in our skin. The skin is a naturally acidic environment that can be a conduit to creating breeding grounds for things that would absolutely scare and shock you if you could see them.
Why is Proper Skin-Care so Important?
Skin conditions are only symptoms of this process. As the body attempts to eliminate these by-products, you can experience anything from dandruff, pimples, and rashes, to dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, and skin cancer. Psoriasis and skin cancer being the most toxic of all the skin conditions.
A majority of people believe that putting some soap on our bodies and washing ourselves with it is actually cleaning us. This is true to some degree; however, most soaps have chemicals for smell and other qualities that are carcinogenic.
Many people with dry skin, especially women, use moisturizers to make the skin soft and oily. The same mistake is usually made by people suffering from skin conditions like psoriasis. They see the dry skin and start applying chemically-based moisturizers, steroid creams and/or ointments, hoping to relieve the symptoms. This approach exacerbates the problem, as the lotions applied only add to the body’s toxicity and cause congestion in the subcutaneous layers of the skin. Congestion and toxicity block the skin’s oil ducts and exit pores, making the skin dry and scaly.
Your skin is comprised of up to 7 layers of dermis and epidermis. For the skin to function with optimum efficiency and keep us free of toxins, we need to ensure we are giving it the attention it deserves.
The Ancient Egyptians were known for their cleanliness and personal hygiene above all cultures. Even the Greeks and their progressive society with public bathing were astounded at how clean and tidy the Egyptians were.
So what did the Ancient Egyptians do? Originally alcohol was made using distilled grains for cleaning the skin and wounds. They would mix this alcohol “vodka” with what we today call “bicarb soda” into a putty consistency. Then they would use this mixture to scrub the skin all over their bodies to kill all the bacteria, yeast, fungi, parasites, etc., and unclog the skin to allow for optimal elimination and skin function. Now not all bacteria and fungi are harmful, and this primarily depends on your diet and what you are putting onto your skin. So Guasha is something you should do regularly (once or twice weekly) but not every day unless you are doing a detoxification protocol.
After doing Guasha a few times, you will be totally amazed at how smooth your skin feels and how radiant your skin looks. It also improves the body’s ability to make more vitamin D when you go into the sun, allows you to tan easier, and protects you against sunburn. Coconut oil has natural sun protective benefits and, when applied after Guasha, assists in protecting the skin from sunburn. This is important to know because petrochemicals in sunscreen have been linked to causing skin cancer. The problem then is that the more people who use sunscreen get skin cancer, and the more people who get skin cancer, the more people use sunscreen. It’s a vicious cycle!
Your liver, kidneys, and other organs will love you if your skin is functioning efficiently and eliminating the majority of the toxicity, and you will be maximizing your body’s potential of being in optimum health and well-being.
How to Make Guasha
What you will need:
- VODKA – cheapest bottle of triple distilled
- BI-CARB SODA – aluminium free
- GLASS JAR / CONTAINER (with a lid)
Mix the VODKA and BI-CARB SODA in your glass jar or container until it’s a putty consistency. Put the lid on and leave it in the shower or close by where you can easily access it. Wet yourself all over, then turn off the shower and scrub your entire body with this putty (use a scrub brush or a loofah). Scrub everywhere, including your scalp but being gentle on your face.
You will get an itch and burning sensation in the areas you have inflammation, particularly if you suffer from a skin condition like psoriasis, eczema, acne, or dermatitis. I recommend focusing more on these areas, and when you’re done scrubbing, turn the shower back on and rinse off well.
That’s the Guasha done!
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are doing an extended detoxification program or just a short fast, it is ok to perform Guasha once or twice daily; however, you should only perform Guasha once or twice weekly when doing it as part of your normal everyday routine.
Some Extra Powerful Skin-Care Remedies
When finished rinsing yourself off, remove most of the water off your body with your hands and then apply a light film of organic cold-pressed extra virgin coconut oil over your whole body, including your face. Stand in front of a fan to allow the oil to dry on your skin before lightly patting your skin dry with a towel.
After this, I recommend Sunbaking for a minimum of 10 minutes on each side (front and back) about 2 hours before lunch or 2 hours after lunch, being careful not to burn your skin OR use a solarium. You can increase how long you sunbake for over time
If possible, I also then recommend going for a swim in the ocean or having a saltwater bath with Sea Salt, Himalayan Pink Rock Salt, or Epsom Salt (dissolve 2 heaped tablespoons of either one of these salts in a cool bath).
This Guasha Skin-Care routine will help decrease the workload on other eliminatory organs and assist you in eliminating toxic waste from your body, and for those who suffer from a skin condition like psoriasis, eczema, acne, or dermatitis, it will help you achieve full skin rejuvenation.
